During this science unit students will explore what Mother Earth has to offer in regard to living things. They will focus on Indigenous perspectives by looking at connection to country, caring for country, bush foods and signs that Mother Earth gives us that inform us when certain foods are ready to eat. Students will look at natural resources and where they come from and how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples used them. Students will be exploring how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples observe external features of living things are mimicked and replicated in traditional dance. There will be opportunities to look at the different seasonal calendars and how natural resources are used by ATSI peoples to create tools and weapons. Students will have the opportunity to plan and design a tool to carry water which will be made only from natural resources. They will plan, draft, sketch, create and test their designs.
