What is Bilaarr AI?
Bilaarr is an AI-powered cultural curriculum coach designed to support educators in embedding authentic Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into their teaching. Developed by First Nations educators, Bilaarr provides culturally informed lesson ideas, resources, and guidance aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Every answer she gives is grounded in truth-telling, respect, and cultural safety.

Why Balaa Ai is now Bilaarr Ai
This name change reflects a deeper return to the Gamilaraay language, cultural grounding, and community consultation. After yarning with Gamilaraay language teachers and cultural practitioners, we have moved to the traditional Gamilaraay word Bilaarr, meaning oak tree. Over time, this word became known in English as belah or balaa.
The Bilaarr tree carries meaning connected to strength, deep roots, Country and knowledge that stands the test of time. These values reflect the heart of Bilaarr Ai, supporting educators to embed First Nations perspectives with care, confidence and cultural integrity.
Over the coming months, the new name and branding will be gradually updated across the TIPIAC website, member areas, emails and resources. Current access and use of Bilaarr Ai will not be affected.
