Stage 3: Geography Unit

$140.00

This geographical unit of work will investigate traditional Australian Aboriginal land care and traditions.

Students will use inquiry-based processes that will help students gain a deeper understanding of why the land is so important to Aboriginal people in Australia. Students will investigate the complex systems that Aboriginal people used to care for the land before European contact.

Students will investigate the variety of techniques that were used by Aboriginal people in different parts of Australia and how their land care differed from one part of the country to another. They will examine how Indigenous people practised sustainability and why the land was and still is today a vital part of Aboriginal people’s lives. Students will look at the geographical characteristics of the land and the interconnections between the land and people. During the student’s inquiry process, they will investigate and use a variety of geographical maps and data to interpret and present Aboriginal land care practices.
